5-Methoxy-1-[(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethylpyridin-2-yl)methyl]-2-{[(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethylpyridin-2-yl)methyl]sulfanyl}-1H-1,3 -benzodiazole is a benzimidazole derivative that inhibits the activity of the enzyme phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4). 5MMBDZ has been shown to be an efficacious inhibitor of PDE4 in vitro. It is also a proton pump inhibitor and can be used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. This compound is synthetic with impurities like noxide and chromatographic substances that may affect the prognosis of patients who are suffering from hepatic impairment.
