Product Information

Name:
Gatifloxacin hydrochloride
Description:

Gatifloxacin hydrochloride is a crystalline polymorph that has been shown to be more soluble in water than other polymorphs. Gatifloxacin hydrochloride is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and preventing transcription and replication. It also binds to markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains (e.g., ESX-1 secretion system protein) and inhibits cell growth in culture. The drug is used for the treatment of staphylococcal infections, including ophthalmic use, as well as for the treatment of chronic bronchitis due to P. aeruginosa or Moxifloxacin hydrochloride resistant strains. Gatifloxacin hydrochloride may also have ocular side effects, such as blurred vision and sensitivity to light, which can be reduced by taking the drug with food or milk.
