Hydroxymethyl EDOT is a monomer that is used in the synthesis of polymers. It can be polymerized into a polymer film and its functional groups can be used for copolymerization. Hydroxymethyl EDOT has been shown to have low toxicity in mammalian cells, which may be due to its hydroxyl group. Hydroxymethyl EDOT has also been shown to be able to detect micrometre-sized objects under an optical microscope, making it useful in biological research.
