Product Information
Cyclic iodixanol is a cyclic compound that has been synthesized from benzene, methanol and adsorbents. The diameter of the cyclic iodixanol molecule is smaller than the average diameter of a solution of non-polar molecules, which allows it to be more readily absorbed by water. Cyclic iodixanol has been shown to adsorb onto the surface of the reaction solution and minimize the amount of unadsorbed material. The synthesis method involves dimerizing benzene and methanol with an adsorbent such as activated carbon or silica gel. Cyclic iodixanol is used industrially as an x-ray contrast agent for imaging organs in the chest cavity, abdomen and pelvis.
