Description

Bay 11-7085 is a chemical compound that has been found to have minimal toxicity in animal studies. It binds to the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin 1β (IL1β). Bay 11-7085 also inhibits the activation of nuclear factor κB (NFκB), which is a transcription factor involved in cellular proliferation, cell differentiation, and inflammation. The TLR4 receptor plays an important role in atherosclerosis, which is characterized by an accumulation of cholesterol in blood vessels as well as plaque deposits on artery walls. Bay 11-7085 has been shown to inhibit the progression of atherosclerotic lesions by inhibiting the expression of growth factor β1 (GFβ1).
