Lethedoside A is a natural product with cytotoxic activity against tumor cells. It is the major component of the meoh extract from the bark of a Malaysian tree, Melaleuca leucodendron. Lethedoside A has been shown to inhibit tumor cell growth by arresting cell cycle progression and inducing apoptosis in human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cells. The mechanism of action for this compound appears to be through inhibition of protein synthesis and induction of oxidative stress leading to cell death.
