Product Information
- Rapamycin, 42-deoxy-42-(2H-tetrazol-2-yl)-, (42S)-
- (42S)-42-Deoxy-42-(2H-tetrazol-2-yl)rapamycin
Rapamycin is a macrolide immunosuppressant with antibiotic properties. It binds to the FKBP12-rapamycin binding domain of mTOR, which leads to inactivation of the protein kinase and its downstream signaling pathways. Rapamycin has been shown to inhibit the activity of ion channels by binding to their hydrophobic domains, which leads to decreased action potentials in neurons. This drug also blocks the phosphorylation of proteins in signal transduction cascades, leading to inhibition of cell proliferation and cytotoxicity. Rapamycin is a potent inhibitor of antibody production through inhibition of T cell activation and B cell proliferation. Rapamycin can be used as an anti-cancer agent against certain types of cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and sarcoma.
