Calyciphylline A is a synthetic hexacyclic alkaloid that has been shown to stabilize the growth of Daphniphyllum, an ascomycete fungus. It is also a natural product, derived from the reduction of calycopyrrolizidine-type alkaloids. This compound can be synthesized using an enolate and the skeleton of calycopyrrolizidine B or C. Calyciphylline A has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic effects. It is a spirocyclic molecule with alkenylation at C-8, which may account for its biological activity.
