Product Information
Hypoxanthine-13C2,15N is a nucleoside analogue that inhibits DNA polymerase. It has been shown to decrease the intracellular concentration of hypoxanthine and xanthine, which leads to an increase in the cellular level of uric acid. Hypoxanthine-13C2,15N has been shown to inhibit the growth of wild-type strains of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis but not mutants deficient in purine biosynthesis. This compound has also been shown to have no effect on protein synthesis or cell proliferation in human blood cells. Hypoxanthine-13C2,15N is not absorbed orally and must be given intravenously or intramuscularly. The drug may cause bowel disease because it decreases water content in stool by increasing the concentration of sodium ions in the intestine. Hypoxanthine-13C2,15N may interact with other drugs by inhibiting their absorption or excretion
