Amentoflavone-7”,4”’-dimethyl ether is a biflavonoid that has been shown to inhibit the activity of influenza virus in vitro. It also has anti-influenza virus activity in mice as well as anti-influenza virus activity against human influenza A and B viruses. In addition, this compound has been found to have antiviral properties against other types of viruses including herpes simplex, vaccinia, and vesicular stomatitis virus. The mechanism of action for amentoflavone-7”,4”’-dimethyl ether is not known but it may be related to its effect on glycoside or sialic acid binding sites on the virus surface.
