Description:

Olesoxime is a drug that has been shown to prevent neuronal death in the cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) mouse model. It promotes the production of neurotrophic factors and prevents neuronal death by maintaining ATP levels, mitochondrial membrane potential, and antioxidant defenses. Olesoxime may also be a promising treatment for diabetic neuropathy, as it can alleviate both pain and symptoms of autonomic dysfunction. This drug has also been shown to have antidiabetic effects, improving glucose metabolism and preventing insulin resistance in animal models. Olesoxime is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of CTX.
