Product Information
- Benzaldehyde, 2-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)-
- Benzaldehyde, o-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-
2-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)benzaldehyde is a chemical compound with the molecular formula of C8H12O3. It has a redox potential of -0.05 V, and was shown to have growth inhibitory activity against human pathogens and antimicrobial properties. The reaction product is formed when an alcohol and an aldehyde react together in the presence of a base and a metal ion. This can be used as an alternative to ethyl methanesulfonate for the synthesis of 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)benzaldehyde. It also has conformation that allows it to bind to bacterial membranes, which may account for its antimicrobial activity.
