3-Epiturraeanthin is a cytotoxic compound that was isolated from leaves of the plant Aphanamixis polystachya. The cytotoxic activity of 3-epiturraeanthin has been demonstrated in a variety of experiments, including the detection of significant cytotoxic activity against human lung cancer cells in vitro. This compound also inhibits tumor growth and induces apoptosis in mice with skin cancer. 3-Epiturraeanthin has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of human colon cancer cells by inhibiting protein synthesis and inducing DNA fragmentation. This compound is also able to inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis in mice with skin cancer.
