2-Bromo-4,5-dimethylphenol is an analogously substituted phenacyl compound. It reacts with paraformaldehyde in a radical mechanism to form 2,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl formylation. The reaction product can be used as a carbon source for the synthesis of benzofurans. 2-Bromo-4,5-dimethylphenol can also be used in preparative organic chemistry to form boron trifluoride etherate and biomolecules.
