Description:
4-Methyl-2-nitrobenzylalcohol is a reagent used in organic synthesis. It is an acyl halide that can be prepared by the reaction of an aliphatic or aromatic alcohol with nitrous acid. 4-Methyl-2-nitrobenzylalcohol has been used to prepare acyl halides, such as acetyl chloride and benzoyl chloride, from aliphatic and aromatic alcohols respectively. This compound has also been used to convert ketones into alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, such as 1,3-diketones.
