Calendin is a natural compound that is extracted from the seeds of the calendula plant. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in vitro, which may be due to its ability to bind to Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and inhibit production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Calendin also inhibits the activity of two enzymes, polymerase chain reaction and carboxypeptidase A, which are involved in cellular apoptosis. These effects may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of these enzymes by binding to their active site and blocking the formation of an enzyme-substrate complex. Calendin has been shown to have anticancer effects on various carcinoma cell lines in vitro, but it does not show any significant effect against normal cells.
