Product Information
Sepinol is a chromene-type natural product that is structurally related to the flavonoid class of plant compounds. This compound has been shown to inhibit LPS-induced macrophage activation and proinflammatory cytokine production in vitro. Sepinol also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by macrophages, which is thought to be due to its ability to inhibit NADPH oxidase activity and the expression of HIF-1α, a transcription factor that regulates many genes involved in inflammation. Sepinol also contains a hydroxy group on its chromene ring, which may explain its chromatographic behavior as well as its resistance against oxidative degradation. The conformation of this molecule suggests that it could be substituted at positions 2 or 3 with a hydroxy group.
