7,8-Dimethoxy-4'-hydroxyisoflavone is an anti-bacterial substance found in plants. It has shown both antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. 7,8-Dimethoxy-4'-hydroxyisoflavone has been shown to inhibit the growth of fungi and bacteria. The mechanism of this inhibition is not yet clear, but it may involve inhibition of protein synthesis or prevention of cell wall formation. This compound also has high affinity for binding to isoformononetin (7',4''-dimethoxyisoflavone), a phytoestrogen that regulates the transcription of genes involved in the immune response. 7,8-Dimethoxy-4'-hydroxyisoflavone is also a potent antioxidant which can protect cells from oxidative damage.
