Demethylsuberosin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of coumarin derivatives. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. Demethylsuberosin has also been shown to have in vitro antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In addition, it inhibits the growth of HL-60 cells in vitro by inhibiting the synthesis of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA). The biological properties of demethylsuberosin are due to its ability to inhibit enzyme activities such as DNA polymerase, RNA polymerase, and protein synthesis. The pharmacological properties of this compound are due to its ability to be catalysed into malonic acid and its ability to act as an energy metabolism regulator.
