Cistanoside F is a hydrogen-bonded iridoid glucoside that is found in human serum and has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cervical cancer cells. Cistanoside F also inhibits the growth of various types of cancer cells, including those from breast, prostate, and colon cancers, as well as leukemia cells. This compound is an inhibitor of phospholipase A2 and may be used to treat degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease. Cistanoside F also possesses neurotrophic effects that may be useful for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as stroke and brain injuries.
