Ergometrinine is a pharmacological agent that has been shown to have a number of physiological effects, including the inhibition of 5-HT2 receptors and aminotransferase activity. Ergometrinine has been found to be effective in humans for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and for raising serum prolactin levels. This drug is also a matrix effect enhancer, which can be useful in preparative HPLC. Ergometrinine binds to serum albumin and other proteins, forming an amide bond with them. It is also possible that ergometrinine may form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. Ergometrinine has been shown to inhibit the growth of endophytic fungi by an inorganic acid mechanism.
