Formononetin 7-O-glucoside-6''-O-malonate is a flavone glucoside. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of glutathione reductase, an enzyme that is essential for the synthesis of glutathione and other thiols in cells. Formononetin 7-O-glucoside-6''-O-malonate also inhibits enzymes involved in the production of phenylpropanoids and phytoalexins, which are compounds that plants produce in response to injury or infection. This compound has been found to induce cell death in tissue samples from chickpea roots and cicer arietinum leaves.
