Frovatriptan is a selective serotonin receptor agonist that is used for the treatment of migraine. It has been shown to be effective in patients with either migraine or cluster headaches. Frovatriptan is an enantiomer, which means it only contains one type of molecule and therefore only one type of activity. Frovatriptan is an acid salt, which means it can exist as two different enantiomers, L-frovatriptan and D-frovatriptan. The L-form is responsible for the vasoconstrictive properties of this drug while the D-form leads to vasodilation.
