Gardenin B is a natural compound that is extracted from the bark of Gardenia jasminoides. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells and inhibit the growth of colon cancer xenografts in mice. Gardenin B contains caffeic acid, which has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties. The acetate extract of Gardenia jasminoides is also known to have anti-inflammatory effects, as well as inhibitory effects on δ receptors and xanthomicrol. Gardenin B has not been evaluated for its ability to treat inflammatory bowel disease in humans.
