Gedunin is a natural product that is isolated from the roots of Gelsemium elegans. It has been shown to have anti-infectious activities against bacteria, fungi and viruses. Gedunin inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It also inhibits the activity of mitochondrial membrane potential and induces autophagy in cells. The molecular docking analysis has shown that gedunin binds to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) enzymes, which are important for body formation and replication. This molecule has been shown to inhibit intermolecular hydrogen bonding, which may be due to its electron donating properties.
