Product Information
- (+)-MacrosphelideA
Macrosphelide A is a natural product that is synthesized by the macrosphelide-producing bacterium, Staphylococcus. It has been found to have immunosuppressive effects and can be used as an anticancer drug. Macrosphelide A inhibits cancer cell growth and induces apoptosis in leukemia cells. It also inhibits cancer-cell proliferation by inducing aerobic glycolysis, which is an alternative energy pathway in cancer cells that bypasses the need for oxygen. The synthesis of macrosphelide A is stereoselective and occurs through a novel biosynthetic pathway that starts with the conversion of hepg2 cells to hl-60 cells. Macrosphelide A has been shown to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus bacteria, which may be due to its ability to bind electron-deficient molecules such as vitamin D3 or other unidentified electron donors.
