Product Information

Name:
6a-Hydroxymaackiain
Synonyms:
  • 3,6a-Dihydroxy-8,9-methylenedioxypterocarpan(+)-6a-Hydroxymaackiain
Description:

6a-Hydroxymaackiain is a phytoalexin that is produced by plants in response to microbial infection. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against a variety of plant-pathogenic fungi, including Verticillium dahliae. 6a-Hydoxymaackiain also inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis and DNA synthesis. 6a-Hydroxymaackiain has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. This compound also inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of proteins vital for cell division. 6a-Hydroxymaackiain was first isolated from chickpea (Cicer arietinum) seeds.
