This compound binds to estrogen receptors and inhibits the production of osteoclasts, cells responsible for bone resorption. 7-Hydroxy-2',4'-dimethoxyisoflavone also has a suppressive effect on the activity of acid phosphatase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes hydrolysis of organic phosphate esters. 7-Hydroxy-2',4'-dimethoxyisoflavone can be found in plants such as Eschscholtzia californica and Tectorigenin.
