Heratomol is a natural coumarin that is purified from the leaves of Lasiocarpa americana or soybeans. It has been used as a natural disinfectant and mildew inhibitor. The chemical structure of Heratomol consists of two benzene rings, one pyrrole ring, one furan ring, and one coumarin moiety. The molecular weight of Heratomol is 192.6 g/mol. The chemical shift for the orthorhombic form is found at 14.4 ppm in the 1H-NMR spectroscopic data.
Heratomol has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of many bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as fungi such as Aspergillus niger and Penicillium digitatum. Furthermore, it has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
