- Harunganine
Harunganin is a natural drug that belongs to the genus Harungana. It has been shown to have apoptosis-inducing properties, which may be due to its ability to bind with proteins and hydrogen bonds in the cell membrane. Harunganin has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and induce apoptosis in cancer cells, as well as inhibit serum alanine levels in rats. This drug is derived from the fruit extract of Harungana madagascariensis, a plant belonging to the family Sapindaceae. Harunganin can also be found in other plants such as Chrysophanus corymbosum and Chrysophanus amazonica. The chemical structures of harunganin are chrysophanic acid and 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoic acid methyl ester. Toxicity studies have shown that harunganin is nontoxic at doses up to 2000 mg/kg body weight when administered orally or intravenouslyImage by Denis Barthel
