Hotrienol is a pharmaceutical preparation that contains an enantiomer of the fatty acid, caffeic acid, which is found in plants. The terpene neutralizes the acidic properties of the carbonyl group and forms a profile with a solid phase microextraction technique. Hotrienol also contains a number of chemicals including ethyl decanoate and volatile, which are both biochemical compositions. With analytical methods such as GC-MS, it can be determined that hotrienol has a chemical ionization profile that is similar to that of ethyl decanoate.
