Hexahydrocurcumin is a natural compound that is structurally similar to curcumin. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of mouse hepatoma cells in vitro and in vivo. Hexahydrocurcumin also inhibits the proliferation of HL-60 cells, which are human leukemia cells. The anticancer activity of hexahydrocurcumin may be due to its ability to inhibit two proteins involved in the signaling pathway of cancer development: protein kinase C (PKC) and phospholipase A2 (PLA2). Hexahydrocurcumin may also have an effect on tumor tissues by inhibiting the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2).
