Integerrimine is an alkaloid that is found in the plant Senecio, which is also known as senecionine. Integerrimine has been shown to inhibit the growth of insects and exhibits genotoxic activity. The analytical method for integerrimine involves a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a co2 flow detector. Integerrimine can be detected by ultraviolet light at 254 nm and 280 nm, respectively. It can also be identified using a chemical inhibition assay, which involves the use of synthetic retinoids that are structurally similar to insect hormones. These synthetic retinoids bind to the receptor site on the enzyme that produces pyrrolizidine alkaloids and prevent their synthesis. Radix notoginseng is used as a signal peptide, which binds to integerrimine and facilitates its movement through the cell membrane so it can be detected by HPLC.
