Limonin diosphenol is a flavonol glycoside that has antiviral properties. It inhibits the enzyme activities of the viruses, including RNA polymerase and protease. Limonin diosphenol also inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with bacterial enzymes, such as chymotrypsin and trypsin. Limonin diosphenol prevents the synthesis of proteins that are required for viral replication and cell division. Limonin diosphenol has been shown to be effective against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) in human cells.
