7-O-Methylgarcinone E is a natural product found in plants that has been shown to inhibit the growth of colorectal cancer cells. It inhibits the epidermal growth factor receptor and the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal pathway, which leads to apoptosis. 7-O-Methylgarcinone E also inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential and blocks the TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-induced apoptosis pathway. This compound has been shown to have chemopreventive activity against cervical cancer as well as chemical structures that are similar to those of other anticancer agents. 7-O-Methylgarcinone E also binds to proteins and may have an effect on protein synthesis.
