4'-O-Methylpunctatin is a bicolor molecule that is found in plants from the family of Eucomis and Ornithogalum. The discovery of this molecule was made by analyzing the cardiac glycosides from scilla and Urginea maritima. It has been shown to have a cardiac effect on the heart, with high levels in the blood during a heart attack. Chemical analysis showed that 4'-O-Methylpunctatin is structurally similar to digoxin, which has been used for decades as a medication to treat congestive heart failure.
