Prasugrel hydroxy thiolactone is synthesized by acid-catalyzed condensation of 2-aminothiophenol with acetyl chloride in the presence of zinc chloride. The resulting compound can be purified by recrystallization from ethanol/ether or extraction with diethyl ether.
