Product Information
Oleoyl-L-carnitine is a fatty acid that is synthesized from the amino acid L-carnitine. It has been shown to modulate apoptosis in cancer cells. Oleoyl-L-carnitine activates the mitochondrial membrane protein RYR1, which is involved in calcium release and apoptosis. In addition, this compound inhibits the activities of two enzymes, namely protein kinase C and phospholipase A2 (PLA2), which may be responsible for the modulation of tumor growth and metastasis. Oleoyl-L-carnitine has been shown to have cytosolic Ca2+ channel activity, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in human breast cancer cells.
