Pterocarpine is a natural product that is a fatty acid. It is found in the seed of Pterocarpine indica and other plants of the genus Pterocarpus. It has been shown to have anti-cancer properties, which may be due to its ability to stimulate hl-60 cells and inhibit the proliferation of bone cancer cells. This substance also has been shown to inhibit microbial growth, as well as inhibiting the growth of C. albicans and C. neoformans. Pterocarpine has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human erythrocytes in biochemical studies, which may be due to its interaction with sodium citrate and hydroxyl group.
