Description:

Calopocarpin is a cristacarpin that belongs to the genus abyssinone. It has shown radical scavenging activity and it may have anticancer effects. Calopocarpin also has anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and antioxidant properties. Calopocarpin is a natural product isolated from the bark of the Etoac tree in Gabon. This compound has been shown to induce apoptotic cell death in cancer cells by inhibiting protein synthesis and activating caspases. Calopocarpin is also a precursor of the isoflavones genistein and daidzein, which are found in soy beans. The chemical structures of calopocarpin are similar to those of deguelin, an anticancer drug that inhibits DNA synthesis.
