Penduletin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of sesquiterpene lactones. It is a biologically active ingredient that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in vitro. Penduletin may be used as an ingredient in food supplements or herbal remedies for inflammation and pain relief. Penduletin has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting the activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK). It also inhibits the activation of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which is responsible for inflammatory prostaglandins production. Penduletin also inhibits the activation of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) by preventing its translocation from the cytoplasmic membrane to the cell membrane. This action prevents arachidonic acid release, which is necessary for prostaglandin synthesis, thereby reducing inflammation and pain.
