Robustigenin is a glycation inhibitor that is derived from the plant derris. It has been shown to inhibit glycation of proteins, which are important in numerous biological processes, including DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. Robustigenin also inhibits the condensation of pentamethoxyisoflavone with formate in a laboratory setting. This inhibition may be due to its ability to demethylate benzyl groups and prevent ether formation. Robustigenin also has flavonoid-like properties and can be used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type II.
