Salvinorin A also has pharmacological effects on humans, including analgesic and sedative-hypnotic effects. It binds to the opioid receptor, but with a much higher affinity than morphine. Salvinorin A also acts as an agonist of the kappa-opioid receptor and may be a potential drug target for treating chronic pain or substance abuse disorders.
