Strictosamide is a monoterpenoid indole alkaloid that has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties. It is synthesized by the fungus Strictosporum spp. and can be extracted from the plant Stricta davurica. The mechanism of action of strictosamide is not known, but it has been shown to inhibit enzymes such as matrix metalloproteinases and dextran sulfate, which are involved in inflammatory bowel disease. Preparative hplc can be used to isolate strictosamide from other compounds present in crude extracts, such as polyphenols, terpenes, or tannins.
