Alpha-selinine is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of chemical substances. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells in vitro, and also exhibits antimicrobial activity in vivo. Alpha-selinine causes oxygenated acetate extract to be released from cells, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with the cell membrane. Alpha-selinine inhibits methyl anthranilate production in vitro, which suggests it could be used as an effective chemotherapy drug. Lavandula angustifolia extract has been shown to increase the effectiveness of alpha-selinine against cancer cells in vitro. Protocatechuic acid has also been shown to inhibit methyl anthranilate production and increase the effectiveness of alpha-selinine against cancer cells in vitro.
