Tovophyllin A is a bioactive compound that belongs to the class of compounds. It has been shown to inhibit aromatase activity, which is responsible for the synthesis of estrogen. Tovophyllin A also binds to and inhibits the receptor binding of estradiol, which may contribute to its anti-estrogenic effects. In addition, this compound has been shown to have pro-inflammatory activities in vitro and in vivo, as well as damage lung cells by inhibiting proximal tubules. Furthermore, Tovophyllin A has been shown to induce cell death in murine hepatoma cells by triggering apoptosis through caspase activation.
