Product Information
Cycloparaphenylene is a nonpolar molecule that can be encapsulated by other molecules. It has been shown to have an endohedral cavity, which is a nanotube with a small cavity inside of it that is capable of holding another molecule. This molecule is able to interact with the surrounding environment and maximize its energy levels. Cycloparaphenylene has been shown to be reduced by hydrogen in the presence of palladium on platinum at room temperature. The reduction reaction occurs when electrons are donated from cycloparaphenylene to hydrogen, forming hydrocarbons and water as products. The electron transfer properties of this molecule make it possible for it to act as an electron donor or acceptor in reactions such as oxidation and reduction reactions, respectively.
