Zapotin is a fatty acid that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. It also inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis, which is an important metabolic process for bacteria. Zapotin also appears to be a potential anticancer agent that exhibits cytotoxicity against human leukemia HL-60 cells and colon cancer HT-29 cells.
