It acts by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme called acetyl CoA carboxylase, which is required to produce fatty acids. Glufosinate-N-acetyl also inhibits other enzymes that are involved in the production of fatty acids, such as deacetylases and conjugates. Glufosinate-N-acetyl is used to control pests on various plants, including soybeans, cotton, sugar beets, and fruits. The transport of glufosinate-N-acetyl from leaves to roots has been shown to be facilitated by a process called adsorption. This process occurs when glufosinate-N-acetyl binds with soil particles or organic matter on the surface of the leaf and then moves into plant tissues.
