Fomidacillin is a synthetic antibiotic that has been shown to be effective against many different microorganisms, including viruses and bacteria. Fomidacillin has also been shown to have antiviral and antifungal properties. Fomidacillin is derived from the natural product fumigaclavine A, which is found in the fungus Aspergillus terreus. Fomidacillin is an antibacterial agent that inhibits cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. It also has antitumor activity and shows inhibitory effects on DNA synthesis in vitro.
